Education Advisory Board MAJOR FUNCTIONS AND ACTIVITIES:
It is the intent of the City
Commission in the establishment of an Education Advisory Board that this
Board shall act in an advisory capacity to the City Commission in
matters relating to issues relating to educational matters from the
pre-school through and including post-secondary education level which
will impact the quality of education for all city residents and
citizens or which will impact education facilities located within the
city.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. The duties of the Education
Advisory Board shall include but not be limited to the following: (B) Serve as a liaison between the citizens, residents, neighborhood associations, local businesses and the city on educational issues. (C) Coordinate the activities of the city with those activities of the local schools, colleges and universities in order to promote educational opportunities for citizens and residents of the city. (D) Develop recommendations regarding programs which may be created to enhance educational opportunities within the city. (E) Develop proposed actions, including proposed legislation at the state and federal level, which may be taken in support of educational programs within the city. (E) Identify and advise the city on ways to attract state and federal programs and grants in direct support of schools within the city. (F) Assist the city and the public schools within the city and those attended by city citizens and residents in recruiting volunteers to assist public school students before, during and after school. (G) Contact businesses within the geographical boundaries of the city and businesses outside the geographical boundaries of the city, but who do business with the city to provide professional skills, materials, financial or educational support for the schools. (H) Advise the city in the promotion of the public image of schools within the city and those attended by city citizens and residents through the development of brochures and other materials to be used in marketing city schools. (I) Coordinate with the city's police department to improve safety for public school students before, during and after school. (J) Coordinate with the city's parks and recreation department regarding parks, playgrounds and recreational facilities and utilization of such facilities by the schools within the city. (K) Coordinate, work in conjunction and communicate regularly with the Pembroke Pines Charter Elementary and Middle School Advisory Board and the Pembroke Pines Charter High School Advisory Board. (L) Solicit participation of and regular attendance at Board meetings by representatives of the traditional public schools located within Pembroke Pines and those public schools serving students who reside in Pembroke Pines.
