Mental health is a key component to overall
health and well being. The S.W.F.P. offers individual and group counseling to
registered clients ages 55 and over. Our services are confidential and strive to
build a supportive network for older adults. Individual counseling is provided
by a Master’s Level Social Worker.
The senior center has developed a
collaborative partnership with the Nova Southeastern University Center for
Psychological Studies. Doctoral level clinicians are available to meet with
clients, at no charge, for weekly one-hour sessions. Mental health issues
covered include, but not limited to: depression, anxiety, grief, personality
disorders, marital conflict, and family problems.
Various support groups are offered on an
ongoing basis. Support groups offer clients the opportunity to share their
experiences in a safe, supportive environment. All groups are facilitated by
Social Services staff. The following groups are offered: Bereavement Support
Group, Caregiver Support Group, Spanish Caregiver Support Group, and Visually
Impaired (VIP) Support Group.
In order to initiate counseling services,
client must be a registered member of the S.W.F.P Senior center. To schedule a
counseling appointment or obtain further information on support groups, please
