Citizens Fire Academy
Recognizing the need to remain educationally pro-active in serving the
community. the Pembroke Pines Citizens Fire Academy was started as an awareness
and educational program for citizens and community leaders. The
first class, which was held in the fall of 1996, graduated 21 citizens from a
cross-section of the community who were anxious to learn about the operation of
the Fire Department.
The Pembroke Pines Fire Department will hold its 2006 Citizens Fire Academy
Class in Sept/Oct 2006. Classes will be held at the Pembroke Pines Fire
Training Facility on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. and last for six
(6) weeks.
The Six (6) week course provides participants with an
overview of the department as well as a general overview of firefighting and
emergency medical services. All classes are taught by Fire Department
personnel. Topics covered include: Fire Behavior, Hose Line
Advancement, Ladder Placement, Fire Apparatus Familiarization, Vehicle
Extrication, Patient Care & Treatment, Fire Prevention/Inspections, and use of
Fire Extinguishers. We believe that through education, the
Citizens Fire Academy provides an understanding of the department's
responsibilities and capabilities in serving the community.
