OCTV  SCHEDULE – February 2012

PART A – Showings @7 AM, 10 AM, 1 PM, 4 PM ( 7 PM & 10 PM  on,Tues,Thurs, Fri, Sat)

Let’s Talk Landscaping

Pembroke Pines has a Certified Arborist, who is our Landscape Supervisor.  He is Guillermo Salazar and we sat down with him at his office to discuss what his job is and what he does for city property as well as for our residents who have questions or problems with their landscaping.

Special People Extraordinary Times

We have created a Viet Nam Veterans Special by taking two of our interviews and combining them in a new format.  Our Viet Nam veterans, Bob Henry, a Marine, and Stephan Keisman, an Army Infantryman, had very different experiences in Viet Nam although they were both there at the same time and in the same parts of that country.

Reel/Live Entertainment

We reviewed an excellent film, “The Help.”  It was a story of a woman who grew up in the South, went to college up North and came back to Jackson, Mississippi and wrote a book about housemaids in the 1960’s through the eyes of the Negro servants.  It pulls no punches, tells it like it was and the brave women who told their stories.  It also has a saucy, humorous side and we recommend this film highly.

Let’s Talk Anti-Terrorism

We got a chance to sit down with Al Xiques who is with the Pembroke Pines Police Department’s Anti-Terrorism & Intelligence Unit Crisis Response Team.  He had some interesting things to tell us about his work and how important it is in today’s society.

PART B – Showings @ 8 AM, 11 AM, 2 PM, 5 PM ( 8 PM & 11 PM on Mon., Tues, Thurs, Fri & Sat.)

Pembroke Pines Book Club

We reviewed a funny, yet sad but well-written book entitled “Losing Mum And Pup.” It was written by Christopher Buckley.  He is the son of William F. Buckley, Jr. and Patricia Buckley.  Christopher loved his parents, but understood that they were a handful. This memoir of their lives and deaths is loving, exasperated and very funny.

Glass Gallery Art Exhibit

This is a photography exhibit, entitled “In The Eye Of The Beholder,” and showcases the work of more than twenty local photographers.  It is an amazingly beautiful exhibit and very diverse.

Laurel Wilt

This film by the Florida Department of Agriculture depicts the danger to our landscape foliage from the pesky white fly.

PART C – 9 AM, 12 PM, 3 PM (6 PM & 9 PM on Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri, Sat)

Fire/Rescue Department’s Probie Class #49

Our Fire/Rescue Department puts the latest class through their exacting paces and they learn what it takes to become a Pembroke Pines firefighter.

Let’s Talk Crime

Our Commissioner, Jack McCluskey, discussed crime in our city and especially in his District 2.  Due a great deal to our Police Department’s new Burglary Suppression Teams, burglary crimes have actually gone down in District 2, as they must have throughout the city.

Don’t Pack A Pest

Against our rules and regulations, travelers sometimes bring in plants, fruit or foods with bugs that breed disease.  This Department of Agriculture video alerts us to the dangers that these pests can have on our life and asks us to obey the law and “don’t pack a pest.”

Studio 18 Art Exhibit

This month’s art exhibit at Studio 18 is “Symbolic Visions” and features the work of three artists; Judy Polstra, Ernesto Kunde and Claudio Perez-Leon.

PART D – Showings @ 6:30 PM on Wednesdays & Sundays

Unedited film of the most recent Commission Meeting in its entirety.
