Burglaries After Leaving Items in Vehicle Purchased at Best
Buy
Please refrain
from leaving any items, especially laptop computers,
purchased at Best Buy in your vehicle while you continue
shopping at other locations. Subjects are casing Best Buy
looking for people who purchase items and following them in
order to break into their vehicles. If you believe you are
being followed or notice any suspicious activity, notify
police immediately.
Residential Burglary Alert
Due to the increase in Residential Burglaries in the city,
particularly in the West District, citizens are encouraged
to report to police any suspicious vehicles and persons seen
in their neighborhood.
Burglars are casing the neighborhood during the daytime
looking for potential vacant residences. The subjects first
knock on the door to ensure that the residence is
unoccupied. Subjects usually park their vehicles in the
victim’s driveway or in close vicinity. Entry is usually
made by prying the rear slider or by breaking a rear window.
Jewelry and electronics, to include televisions, computers
and gaming systems are the items stolen.
What you
should do?
• Be aware of your surroundings
• Call 911 immediately if you see any suspicious persons
and/or vehicles in your community
• Provide a detailed description of the person and/or
vehicle to the Police Dispatcher. This includes for vehicles
– approximate year/make/model/color of vehicle and any
unique identifiers such as custom tires, dark tints, etc.
For persons – include gender/height/weight/complexion/hair
color/hair style/tattoos/clothing, etc.
Lottery Scam
– Criminals are targeting mostly Hispanic Females over 55
years of age and stating that they need assistance cashing
in a Lottery ticket. The criminals, who are usually Hispanic
females, state that they are illegal immigrants and promise
to share their winnings with the victim. Victims are asked
to withdraw large sums of cash from their banks or obtain
loans as a prerequisite to obtaining the winnings. The
criminals have the victim speak to someone on the phone who
pretend to be a lottery official. Do not assist these
criminals and call the police immediately.

años de la edad e indican que ellos necesitan assistencia en
convertir en efectivo el boleto de Lotería. Los criminales,
que son hembras generalmente hispanas, indican que ellos son
inmigrantes illegales y prometen a compartir sus ganancias
con la víctima. Las víctimas son pedidas retirar las sumas
grandes del dinero efectivo de sus bancos u obtener un
préstamos como un requisito previo para obtener las
ganancias. Los criminales hacen que la víctima hable con
alguien por teléfono que finge ser un oficial de lotería. No

Theft from Motor Vehicles parked at gyms – especially LA Fitness and
24 hr Fitness.
Victims are leaving their wallets/purses in their vehicle in
the center console or under the seat.
Theft from Motor Vehicles left unlocked at daycare
facilities.
Victims are leaving their vehicles unlocked and/or leaving their
vehicles with the keys in the ignition while they drop off
their children at the daycares. Even though the time frame
when the vehicle is left unattended is between 10 – 15
minutes, criminals are taking this opportunity to remove
items.
Theft from Motor Vehicles where items such as GPS’s and
Ipods are left in plain view.
This is occurring both in Residential Neighborhoods and in
Commercial Businesses parking lots.
Theft from Motor Vehicles left unlocked.
Unlocked vehicles are an easy target for subjects. Subjects are
casing neighborhoods looking for unlocked vehicles.
PLEASE REPORT ANY SUSPICIOUS VEHICLES AND PERSONS SEEN TO
POLICE.
