The Walter C. Young (WCY) Early Child
Development Center, Bright Beginnings, was established in 1989, and
we are the recipients of the Gold Seal of Excellence Award many
times over. We implement the creative curriculum that is utilized
not only in the Broward County School District, but also
nation-wide. Our staff is CDA certified and trained in First Aid /
CPR. In addition to our facility we have a security surveillance
system as well as a School Resource Officer and on-site residential
Police Officer.
All of our activities are designed to educate and enrich all of our
children. Some of our most popular events include: The traditional
Thanksgiving Feast, Mothers Day Tea, Fathers Day Ice-Cream Social,
Grandparents Day Breakfast, Black History Month, Graduation
Commencements, and our annual Walk in My Footsteps Program. Our
curriculum also includes culinary experiences, computer lab, musical
and instrument class and Spanish lessons. We strongly encourage
early literacy here at Bright Beginnings. We have a program called
“Book Buddies”, where our students take home books over the weekend
and are encouraged to read together as a family unit, to promote
early literacy. We make learning fun by recognizing nationally known
events such as; Dental Hygiene Month, Fire Safety Month, Cinco De
Mayo (we make yummy tacos), and a whole lot more. We even celebrate
Mickey Mouse’s birthday with a CHEESE party!
In addition, to our Pre-kindergarten program we offer VPK, Voluntary
Pre-Kindergarten. Our pre-kindergarteners attend a variety of
educational field trips that include Culinary Fun, Pediatric Hands
On Experience, Halloween Harvest Pumpkin Patch and Hayride, Creepy
Crawly Insect Bug Show and Swim Central (supervised swim lessons at
the Aquatic Center located next door). |
