Welcome to the City of Pembroke Pines Early Development Center
Central Campus. Here you will find a safe, nurturing and
stimulating environment with experienced, educated and caring
teachers. Our school has earned the AdvancED Southern
Association of Colleges and Schools and the Council on
Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI) accreditation.
This accreditation is only given to schools that offer the
highest quality of care and education to young children. The
Site Supervisor, Susan L. Cohen, has a Master’s Degree in Early
Childhood Education Administration from Nova Southeastern
University, in addition to many years of experience in early
childhood education.
All teachers hold a bachelor’s degree, associate’s degree
or a Florida Child Care Professional Credential. Everyone on staff
has completed 40-hours of early childhood in-service training.
Our staff is CPR and First Aid Certified. The staff has
undergone a background screening and fingerprinting process. As
part of their continuing education, everyone on staff is
required to attend professional development classes related to
early childhood education; developmentally appropriate
practices, social/emotional development, emergent literacy,
computer technology, throughout the school year.
The school has just completed the fourth
year of Florida’s Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) program. This
state funded program prepares children for kindergarten by helping
children develop the skills they will need to become successful
readers and students. The Central Campus scored a VPK Provider
Readiness Rate of 186 out of a possible 200. The VPK Provider
Kindergarten Readiness Rate measures how well a VPK provider
prepares four-year-olds to be ready for kindergarten based upon
Florida's VPK Education Standards. The VPK Standards describe what
four-year-old children should know and be able to do by the end of
the VPK experience.
Our school library boasts over 3,500 books, CDs, Big Books and
teacher resource materials. Our three and four-year old classes
participate in the Water Safety Education Program taught by Swim
Central. All classes participate in the Stop, Drop and Roll program
taught by our city’s Fire Department and the Stranger Danger program
taught by our city’s Police Department.
Our kindergarten – fifth grade teacher
work day mini-camps offer field trips and in-house special events.
Our summer camp features weekly field trips and swimming twice each
week for pre-k through fifth graders. In-house activities and
specialists provide age appropriate activities in the areas of gym,
sports, music and movement, art and crafts, drama, science, water
play and cool cooking for our two year-old through fifth grade
programs.
