Citywide Streetscape - Questionnaire

Please Answer The Questions Below.

Introduction: The City of Pembroke Pines and its Consultant, Miller Legg, would like to get your input on the subject of ‘Streetscapes’ with this questionnaire. The City has recently contracted with Miller Legg to develop design guidelines that will used to improve the function and beauty of the roadways and streets within the City. This questionnaire will assist the Consultant in the generation of the Guidelines.

You may be asking: “What is meant by the term ‘Streetscape’?” The term ‘streetscape’ typically refers to exterior or outdoor public spaces located between the face of building and the adjoining roadway. It usually concentrates on, what can be called ‘the pedestrian zone’. For our purposes, we will include the entire right-of-way for discussion. That includes the roadway, bike lane, if present, curb and median. The basic components of the streetscape include:
• Pavement – including specialty pavement such as pavers
• Curbs and accessible ramps
• Sidewalks
• Crosswalks
• Landscaping – primarily street trees and other supplemental landscaping and container plantings
• Street furnishings – benches, bus shelters, litter receptacles, banners, bollards, etc.
• Lighting (roadway and pedestrian-scale)
• Building setbacks
• Wayfinding (directional signage, identification signage, etc.)

For the purposes of this questionnaire, streetscape will not address objects mounted to building facades such as signs or awnings or other architectural features. These items, however, can be suggested as a private property enhancement.

With careful implementation, the Streetscape Design Guidelines may help to initiate a revitalization process in some areas of the City, while creating safer streets and roadways and will help generate a greater sense of community pride.
