Pembroke Pines to Present Key to the City
To Hometown Olympian
Pembroke Pines, FL (September 10, 2024) – In a very special presentation, Pembroke Pines Mayor Angelo Castillo will award the Key to the City to Pembroke Pines Two-Time Olympian Kendall Ellis in recognition of her hard work, dedication and stellar accomplishments as a globally top athlete in the area of Track and Field. The presentation will take place at the Pembroke Pines City Commission Meeting held on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at 6:30 pm in Commission Chambers, located at 601 City Center Way.
Kendall Ellis, 28, won the 400m at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Track and Field, becoming a National Champion and securing her spot to run the open 400 at the Paris Olympics. At the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, she won a Gold Medal for the 4x400m Relay -- Women, and a Bronze Medal for the 4x400m Relay – Mixed. Kendall’s athletic career is filled with a long list of awards and championship titles that date back to 2015.
Kendall was born in Pembroke Pines, FL on March 8, 1996 to Wanda and Sam Ellis. She was a Pembroke Pines resident up until college, attending the PPCES and PPCMS West campuses. She graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in 2014, the University of Southern California in 2017, and DeVry Keller Graduate School in 2021 with a Master’s degree in Business.
“Kendall has shown to the world what Pembroke Pines residents are capable of and we are so very proud of her,” said Pembroke Pines Mayor Angelo Castillo. “A Key to the City not only represents civic recognition, but also gratitude reserved for individuals such as Kendall whose service to the public and common good rises to the highest level of achievement.”
