Pembroke Pines Families Enjoyed
“Play Ball Summer”
Peanuts, Popcorn Plus Billy The Marlin!
Pembroke Pines, FL… June 22, 2017….Boys, girls and parents arrived ready to Play Ball at the first City of Pembroke Pines “Play Ball Summer” event hosted by Mayor Frank C. Ortis. The four-hour event held at Flamingo Park offered stations and competitions for pitching, hitting, running bases and catching the ball. Boys and girls ages seven to fourteen years of age learned about the game of base/softball, while the more experienced players enhanced their skills. The free fun filled event also included a Play Ball shirt, hotdog lunch, popcorn, peanuts, cotton candy, snow cones, bounce houses, music, games and photo opportunities with Billy the Marlin.
“Play Ball Summer in Pembroke Pines was a Grand Slam event,” said Mayor Frank C. Ortis, “We continue to support this important United States Conference of Mayors (USCM) Play Ball Initiative to promote baseball and softball our City provided first time exposure to the sport for some children, while helping others develop and enhance existing skills. Hopefully a day like today laid the ground work for boys and girls to enjoy the game and perhaps a lifelong interest in the game.”
In 2015, Major League Baseball and the United States Conference of Mayors (USCM) joined to launch Play Ball in support of baseball. Play Ball introduces youth to the skills necessary to play the game and helps develop skills in those who currently play the game. The USCM Play Ball initiative will span from June through August.
