Pembroke Pines, FL… August 23, 2017...Register for the Fall Daytime Classes held at the City of Pembroke Pines Carl Shechter Southwest Focal Point Community Center Campus located at 301 NW 103rd Avenue, Pembroke Pines, FL 33026. Space is limited in classes which are either free or have a small fee.
 
To participate in classes, events and activities one must be 18 years or older and a registered member of The Center, membership is free. Please present membership card when registering for classes, activities and events.

“Trash to Treasure” Recycled Crafting: A unique class where students create re-purposed artwork re-using everyday objects, typically thrown out!  Explore unconventional creative ways to reduce, reuse and recycle to make upcycled one of a kind eco-friendly original art! Your friends will be “green” with envy when they see your amazing environment saving work of art! Get ready to experiment and have fun! Thursdays 9:30am - 11:30am.  Starts: 11/2/17 – 12/14/17 (no class 11/23.)  Fee:  $20.00 per person (55 yrs. & older) $40.00 per person (54 yrs. & under).

3-D Photo Art Collage:  Students will learn how to transform multiple photos and art prints into 3-D works of art suitable for framing. Offered in six-week sessions. Materials not included, supply listed provided at time of registration. Tuesdays 9:30am – 11:30am.  9/12/17 – 10/17/17 and 10/31/17 – 12/5/17. Fee: $20.00 per person (55 yrs. & older) $40.00 per person (54 yrs. & under).

Intermediate Acrylic Painting: The next step after Beginner’s Acrylic Painting, students will expand their knowledge of painting techniques. Offered in six-week sessions. Materials not included. Mondays 9:30am - 11:30am. 9/11/17 – 10/16/17 and 10/30/17 – 12/4/17.  Fee: $20.00 per person (55 yrs. & older) $40.00 per person (54 yrs. & under).

French Poetry: Meets the 2nd Thursday of each month from 10:00am – 11:00am in the Main Hall. FREE for registered SWFP members only.
 
Spanish Poetry:  Meets the 4th Thursday of each month from 10:00am – 11:00am in the Main Hall. FREE for registered SWFP members only.
 
Mini Spa Day!: Enjoy a relaxing hand massage and have your nails painted. This event is on first come first served basis every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month from 9:30am – 10:30am in South Activities Room. FREE for registered SWFP members only.
 
 
Creative Art Journaling: A hands on course designed to generate inspiration, organize artistic ideas and develop an appreciation of Art.  Each week the class begins with a brief overview and discussion about a famous artist including his/her style, medium, theme as well as elements of art prominent in the artist’s work. Students will then develop ideas of their own, using a variety of mediums in their art journals. Offered in six-week sessions, featuring six different artists per session. Fridays 12:00pm – 2:00pm 9/15/17 – 10/20/17 and 11/3/17 – 12/22/17 (no class 11/10 and 11/24). 
Fee: $20.00 per person (55 yrs. & older) $40.00 per person (54 yrs. & under).
 
Adult Coloring:  It is Fun, relaxing and stress relieving too!  Students may bring their own coloring sheets or use some provided by The Center.  Students bring sharpened colored pencils or pens.  Keep Calm and Color On during the six-week sessions. Advanced Registration is required. Mondays 12:00pm-2:00pm.  9/11/17 – 10/16/17 and 10/30/17 – 12/4/17. FREE for registered SWFP Members Only.
 
Beginner’s Guitar:  Beginners wanted, just bring your guitar and receive the guidance and instruction necessary to learn how to play the guitar. Course book can be purchased from instructor. Offered in six-week sessions. Mondays 9:30am - 10:30am. 9/11/17 – 10/16/17 and 10/30/17 – 12/4/17. Fee: $30.00 per person (55 yrs. & older) $50.00 per person (54 yrs. & under).
 
Intermediate Guitar: Students must have taken Beginner’s Guitar and bring written approval from the instructor to register for this class. Course book can be purchased from instructor.  Offered in six- week sessions. Mondays 10:30am - 11:30am. 9/11/17 – 10/16/17 and 10/30/17 – 12/4/17.  Fee: $30.00 per person (55 yrs. & older) $50.00 per person (54 yrs. & under).
 
YOU Can Sew!:  In this “no pressure” course the emphasis is on having fun and creating projects you want to sew! Two classes are offered in six-week sessions. Materials are not included. Mondays 12:30pm-2:30pm, 9/11/17 – 10/16/17 and 10/30/17 – 12/4/17.  -OR- Wednesdays 9:30am -11:30 am, 9/13/17 – 10/18/17 and 11/1/17 – 12/6/17.  Fee: $38.00 per person per class (55 yrs. & older) $42.00 per person (54 yrs. & under).  Offered during the day and in the Evening Classes schedule.
 
Knitting for FUN!                            
Learn the basics of knitting and knit your stress away! Offered in six-week sessions. Wednesdays 12:00pm – 2:00pm, 9/13/17 – 10/18/17 and 11/1/17 – 12/6/17. Materials are not included. Fee: $38.00 per person (55 yrs. & older) $58.00 per person (54 yrs. & under).
 
Silk Floral Workshop: A creative monthly workshop offering a different themed project to take home. The two-hour workshops begin at 9:30am on Tuesdays:  October 17, 2017, November 21, 2017 and December 19, 2017.  Advanced Registration is required, one week in advance prior to 4:00pm. Fee: $18.00 per class, per person and includes all materials.
 
Fresh Flower Arranging Workshop:  The fragrant and creative workshops are held twice a month and the fee includes a different themed project to take home. Registration is required by 4:00pm the day prior to each workshop. The two-hour workshops are held on Tuesdays and begin at 9:30am:  October 10th and October 24th, November 14th and November 28th, December 12th and December 26th. Fee: $18.00 per class, per person and includes all materials.
 
Drawing Fundamentals: The foundation of all studio art classes is drawing. Students will learn the fundamentals of drawing including the study of line, perspective, light and shade, form and proportion in this easy to follow class. Mediums students will use are graphite pencil, charcoal, pen, and ink. Offered in six-week sessions. Materials not included - Bring a sketchpad, drawing pencil to your first class. Wednesdays 12:30pm - 2:30pm. 9/13/17 – 10/18/17 and 11/1/17 – 12/6/17.  Fee: $20.00 per person (55 yrs. & older) $40.00 per person (54 yrs. & under).

Figure Drawing: Explore the world of figure drawing in this easy to follow course. Students will learn the fundamental skills of figure drawing. Some previous drawing experience is desired. Offered in six-week sessions. Materials not included. Bring a sketchpad, drawing pencil to first class. Tuesdays 12:30pm - 2:30pm. 9/12/17 – 10/17/17 and 10/31/17 – 12/5/17.  Fee: $20.00 per person (55 yrs. & older) $40.00 per person (54 yrs. & under).
 
Portrait Drawing: Learn the art of portrait drawing through this informative course. Working from photographs, students will learn to draw portraits, culminating their studies by creating a self-portrait using a hand held mirror at the end of the 6-week course. Please bring a sketch pad, drawing pencil, and portrait style photograph to the first class. Fridays 9:30am – 11:30am.  9/15/17 – 10/20/17 and 11/3/17 – 12/22/17 (no class 11/10 and 11/24). Fee: $20.00 per person (55 yrs. & older) $40.00 per person (54 yrs. & under).
 
Intro to Watercolor: This class is designed for individuals who want to learn the basic techniques of watercolor painting. This course will provide students the basic skills needed for working with watercolors. Offered in six-week sessions. Materials not included. Thursdays 12:30pm - 2:30pm. 9/14/17 – 10/19/17 and 11/2/17 – 12/14/17 (no class 11/23).  Fee: $20.00 per person (55 yrs. & older). $40.00 per person (54 yrs. & under).
 
Beginner’s Acrylic Painting: Learn the basic skills needed to start painting in this easy to follow class. Offered in six-week sessions. Materials not included. Fridays 9:30am - 11:30am. 9/15/17 – 10/20/17 and 11/3/17 – 12/22/17 (no class 11/10 and 11/24). FREE for registered SWFP members.
 
Advanced Acrylic Painting:  In a supportive, friendly and relaxed environment, students will explore the wide range of effects that can be achieved using acrylics. Offered in six-week sessions. Materials not included. Fridays 12:00pm - 2:00pm. 9/15/17 – 10/20/17 and 11/3/17 – 12/22/17 (no class 11/10 and 11/24). Fee: $20.00 per person (55 yrs. & older) $40.00 per person (54 yrs. & under).
 
Ceramics Class: Students will create low fire ceramic pieces using pre-molded green ware that are decorated using traditional underglazes, over glazes or layering and mixing of colors. Offered in six-week sessions. Materials not included. Tuesdays 9:00am - 12:00pm. 9/12/17 – 10/17/17 and 10/31/17 – 12/5/17.  FREE for registered SWFP members.
 
Pottery Classes: Using hand building and pottery wheels, students will create high-fired stoneware pottery. Offered in six-week sessions. Materials not included. Wednesdays 9:00am - 11:00am. 9/13/17 – 10/18/17 and 11/1/17 – 12/6/17.  Fee: $42.00 per person (18 yrs. & older) Offered day or evening.
 
Beginning Spanish Class:  Offered in six-week sessions. Wednesdays 10:00am - 12:00pm.  9/13/17 – 10/18/17 and 11/1/17 – 12/6/17.  Fee:  $20.00 per person (55 yrs. & older). $40.00 per person (54 yrs. & under).
 
Smartphone Photography 101:  Whether you have an Android or iPhone, this class will teach you how to take better pictures with your cell phone!  Students will learn about basic composition and options on their phones. They will also learn how to send their pictures to family and friends or post their pictures on social media sites like Facebook. Every 2nd and 4th Monday of the Month from 12:00pm - 2:00pm. FREE for registered SWFP members.
