[ARCHIVED] District 4 Commission Seat Interim Vacancy

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN OF AN INTERIM VACANCY in the City of Pembroke Pines City Commission District 4 Seat PURSUANT TO SECTION 3.11(d) OF THE CITY CHARTER.  Any resident of District 4 interested in serving as a City Commissioner, and meeting the eligibility and residency requirements, is hereby invited to submit an application and resume. 

 The appointed candidate, if any, will serve from the time of the appointment by the City Commission PURSUANT TO RESOLUTION NO. 3860 ADOPTED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION ON APRIL 17, 2024, until November 5, 2024, at which time a Special Election shall be held to elect a candidate to complete the unexpired term of the District 4 commission seat. In accordance with Section 3.04 of the City Charter, the following eligibility and residency requirements shall apply to candidates:  

  • Candidates must be at least 18 years of age at the time of appointment.
  • Candidates must be residents of District 4 for one (1) year.
  • Candidates must be a registered elector.

Application

The deadline to submit a completed and signed application along with resume is 11:59 PM on April 24, 2024, and may be submitted electronically to the Office of the City Clerk at mgraham@ppines.com, or by fax: 954 517-8402. 

Timeline:  

April 18-24 at 11:59 pm  -- Advertising/Applications

April 25-30 -- Interviews

May 1 -- Commission Meeting Public Input/Applicants Present  (begins at 5:30 pm subject to change depending on number of applicants)

May 15  -- Commission Meeting Voting and Swearing-in  (Form 6 to be submitted 30 days from May 15, 2024)

d. Filling of vacanciesUnless otherwise provided by law, if a vacancy occurs on the City Commission, the remaining members of the City Commission may, by majority vote, appoint a qualified individual to fill the vacancy on an interim basis. The City Commission shall adopt a resolution setting forth the process of appointing an interim member of the City Commission pursuant to this section.
