Juneteenth with Keynote_web

City Hall will be closed on June 19 in celebration of Juneteenth. In recognition of the day there will be a free celebration on Friday, June 20 from 6 pm to 9 pm at the Charles F. Dodge City Center for all ages, complete with music, performances by Magic Mojo Ike & Lady Val, and food. The City of Pembroke Pines has an ordinance that makes Juneteenth an official City holiday. Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865 as the date enslaved individuals in Galveston, TX learned they were free more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed by President Abraham Lincoln on January 1, 1863.

According to Juneteenth.com, Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. For more information, please visit www.juneteenth.com
