The City of Pembroke Pines invites everyone to help us name our Panther! "Panthers on the Prowl" is a one-of-a-kind fundraiser benefiting the American Cancer Society, proudly supported by Florida Panthers General Manager Bill Zito and his wife, Julie Zito. This exciting initiative brings together art, community, and philanthropy to support cancer research and patient services, while celebrating Florida’s iconic wildlife and hockey pride. Our Panther is on display between the City of Pembroke Pines Commission Chambers and City Center, 601 City Center Way.
Created by South Florida artist Disem, this panther holds a deeply personal meaning. As a cancer survivor, Disem describes the opportunity to paint the statue for the City of Pembroke Pines and support the American Cancer Society through the Florida Panthers’ initiative as “a profound honor.” Inspired by his own journey, the artwork reflects resilience, hope, and renewal. The colors of a South Florida sunrise and sunset represent the beauty that can emerge after darkness — a symbol of perseverance and faith. The plants painted throughout the panther, including periwinkles, echinaceas, wild indigo, and turmeric flowers, are all native to Florida and known for their healing properties.
Our beautifully painted panther by artist Disem now calls Pembroke Pines home, but it still needs a name! Share your creativity and community spirit by submitting your name idea to www.ppines.com/panther starting today until January 12th. Submissions will be anonymous, and the top three names will be selected for a community vote.
