  • Tree abuse refers to harmful trimming practices that can damage a tree’s health and structure. Examples of tree abuse include:

    • Hurricane Pruning: Removing large portions of the tree in an unsymmetrical way.
    • Topping: Cutting the tops of trees back severely, which can lead to weak regrowth.
    • Hat Racking: Cutting a tree back in a way that creates unnatural and damaging stubs.
    • Lion Cut: Removing all branches from the lower part of the tree, leaving a bare trunk.
    • Lollipop Cut: Creating a top-heavy, unnatural shape by trimming the lower branches excessively.
    • Topiary: Shaping trees into unnatural forms that compromise their health.

These practices can lead to long-term damage, making trees more susceptible to disease, decay, and hazards.
