Building Safety Inspection Program (BSIP)
The Building Safety Inspection Program helps ensure that older buildings in Broward County remain safe and structurally sound over time. This program requires certain buildings to undergo periodic inspections by licensed professionals.
Who Needs an Inspection?
Buildings are required to be inspected once they reach a certain age:
30 years old (and every 10 years after)
25 years old if the building is located within 3 miles of the coastline
This typically applies to:
Multi-story residential buildings (condos, apartments)
Commercial buildings
Other structures as determined by the City
What Does the Inspection Include?
A licensed engineer or architect will evaluate the building’s:
Structural integrity (foundation, beams, load-bearing elements)
Electrical systems
Overall safety conditions
What Happens Next?
A report is submitted to the City with the inspection results
If repairs are needed, they must be completed within a specified timeframe
Follow-up inspections may be required to ensure compliance
Why It Matters
This program helps:
Protect residents, occupants, and visitors
Prevent structural failures
Maintain the long-term safety and value of buildings
👉 Property owners are responsible for completing inspections on time and ensuring their building remains in compliance with all safety requirements.
