Commercial Solid Waste Collection
The City of Pembroke Pines provides solid waste services for commercial businesses in accordance with City ordinances and contracted service providers. Commercial waste services differ from residential services and must be arranged directly with the City’s authorized contractor.
Authorized Commercial Waste Service Provider
Per City ordinance, Waste Pro USA is the exclusive authorized provider of commercial solid waste services within the City of Pembroke Pines. Commercial businesses may not use private or unauthorized haulers for solid waste or roll-off services within City limits.
Service Offering
Commercial solid waste collection services are available for:
- Retail businesses
- Offices
- Restaurants
- Industrial and institutional facilities
Waste Pro offers a variety of service options, including:
- Front-load dumpsters
- Rear-load dumpsters
- Compactors
- Scheduled pickup frequencies based on business needs
Service Determination and Containers
Waste Pro shall determine the number and size of carts, dumpsters, compactors, and roll-off containers, as well as the frequency and scheduled day of collection, based on the needs of each Commercial Service Unit. Waste Pro will notify the Commercial Service Unit of the approved service level.
Waste Pro is responsible for ensuring that all containers are properly sized and serviced in accordance with current health and safety guidelines.
Minimum Collection Requirements
- All Commercial Service Units shall receive solid waste collection a minimum of once (1) time per week.
- Commercial Service Units classified as restaurants by the Broward County Health Department shall receive collection a minimum of two (2) times per week.
- Collection services include carts, dumpsters, solid waste compactors, and roll-off dumpsters.
Overflow and Additional Services
- Waste Pro is permitted to bill for additional yardage when a commercial dumpster is found to be overflowing on a regular service date.
- Waste Pro shall be able to provide additional pickups upon request to meet operational needs.
- Additional services may be required during holidays, special events, or peak business periods to prevent overflow, litter, and debris on the ground.
Holidays and Schedule Adjustments
Collection services scheduled on a holiday may be rescheduled as coordinated between the customer and Waste Pro, provided that the minimum service frequency requirements are maintained.
Prohibited Materials
The following materials may not be placed in commercial solid waste containers:
- Hazardous waste (chemicals, paints, oils, solvents)
- Medical or biohazardous waste
- Hot ashes or combustible materials
- Liquid waste
- Electronics, appliances, or materials restricted by law
Businesses generating regulated or hazardous waste are responsible for proper disposal in accordance with state and federal regulations.
Container Placement and Maintenance
To ensure safe and efficient service:
- Containers must be placed in approved, accessible locations
- Enclosures and gates must remain clear on service days
- Lids must remain closed when not in use
- Containers and surrounding areas must be kept clean and free of loose debris
Improperly maintained containers or blocked access may result in missed pickups or additional service charges.
Recycling and Waste Reduction
Commercial recycling services may be available through Waste Pro depending on business type and waste stream.
Businesses are encouraged to:
- Implement recycling programs where feasible
- Reduce waste generation through reuse and proper inventory management
- Train employees on proper waste disposal practices
Composting for Commercial Businesses
At this time, the City of Pembroke Pines does not provide a commercial composting program. Businesses interested in composting food waste or organic materials must independently contract with private composting providers or implement on-site composting where permitted. Businesses choosing to compost are responsible for compliance with all applicable health, zoning, and sanitation regulations.
